Wifi Setup issues using FA DiskImage

Hi All, I was having issues setting up a new RaspPi 3 with the Flightaware disk image supplied on the FA website. Having scanned some topics seeing other people encountering similar issues, I finally realised that whilst I was editing my config file on the Rasp Pi SD card, I was trying to connect to my routers 5G band. This resulted in the WLAN0 interface showing as down on startup and not connecting.
For people in similar situations, and without wanting to state the obvious (as the obvious things are often overlooked) I think the Pi3 built in Wifi only used band 2G, so make sure your router has split bands and you are putting your WIFI details in for the 2G band, as the 5G won’t work.
I changed my config file entries to the 2G band, restarted, and the Pi connected to the WLAN no issues. Hope this helps some people.

Good to know. I have the same SSID and password set for both by 2G and 5G bands. I still cannot get a Wi-Fi connection using PiAware 10.2.

cruisealt - as I am unfamiliar with 2G and 5G connections I will jst say, welcome to the forum.

I’m sure you will enjoy the hobby.
