PiAware Location Setting NOT Available in the feeder's Configuration page

Hi,

I would like to configure my newly activated PiAware’s location & antenna height. Unfortunately, the feeder’s configuration page no longer have the Location & Antenna height option.

I also noticed all my PiAware feeders configuration page also no longer have the option to re-configure the location as well as antenna height.

Is this issue from FlightAware or something happen to my account?

**I have used Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox as well as Gogle Chrome Browsers, all having the same problem.

Thank you and best regards.

Can someone check on your PiAware Link Configuration page and see any location & antenna height configuration button available?

And screenshot then paste into this discussion page?

I can’t get it work for my MLAT as location not set yet. TQVM.

Yes, still there. You have a flight feeder and your location source is the receiver, according to your site. It is probably one with a gps antenna.

Edit: ups, you have many different sites, which one is missing the buttons. Unlikely, but maybe it is a cache issue, a copy without buttons cached?

Hi biekerc,

FYI, my Piaware is connected to the Raspi and a ADSB beast board via USB.

I also can’t set location and antenna for my standard RTL-SDR site as well.

I hope to get it work as I am unable to fix the location and the mlat for the newly activated piaware account.

TQVM.

With new account you mean new site? Or did you set up a hole new user?

Hi,

Its my 4th Piaware account.

I have 3 Flightfeeders and 4 Piaware accounts.

All these feeders are under 1 main account.

Its the 4th Piaware with ADSB Beast decoder c/w GPS on Piaware 3.5.3 SD card version.

Is it necessary to install gpsd and some other script to let the GPS to work correctly?

Regards.

Ok, if the beast board has a gps module, that might very well be reason you are unable to set location manually.

I have to admit I have now idea how to us a separate GPS receiver with piaware, but I remember people building portable receivers, so there might be some hints in the forum somewhere.

PS What you are referring to as piaware accounts, most people here would call feeder or sites, so this might cause confusion in the future.

Hi biekerc.

I swap the ADSB Beast with GPS Module to RTL-SDR, and the feeder link configuration still doesn’t have the location as well as the antenna height option to choose to configure.

I guess there is something wrong with the FlightAware systems. Because all my other PiAware feeders previously can set the location as well as antenna height but now no longer to get the button link to click to change to desire lon / lat & antenna height.

I will wait for the FlightAware Staff to answer. TQVM.

Best regards.

We’ll look into this on our side but by default PiAware expects if you have a Beast GPS that you are also using the GPS for position (via gpsd).

Hi Eric Carlson,

How to install gpsd into the piaware image and activated it?

Could you please teach / guide me in step by step?

I really appreciated your help. Thank you in advance.

This is not officially supported in PiAware but you should be able to get it working without much effort. Please see this post which has some instructions: Adding GPS to Raspberry Pi running PiAware / Dump1090? - #11 by evangelyul

cant edit my original post some additional info here

  1. lsusb or lsusb -v for detailed information about your devices.

  1. if gpsd works OK this what you get in the status page

gpsd1

Hi evangelyul,

Below is the info.

Please note that once you a site has a receiver-set (i.e., GPS) location then FlightAware always expects that to be the case. You cannot change a site back in this case. (Again as also noted already, using gpsd is not an officially supported feature.)

note also david.baker’s commend in that post

Mar 2
Their isn’t much advantage to using a GPS receiver. We don’t use GPS for MLAT and NTP is good enough for timing.

We have seen users that put piaware inside their car and the GPS (using gspd) will update their site position on FlightAware.

did you install and tried gpsd yet ?

Hi evangelyul,

Thanks for the reply. FYI, the GPS is not working at all in this case. So I might left this feeder offline more than 36 hrs to deactivate it.

This ADSB Beast GPS board is not so user friendly.

Anyway, all my other PiAware Feeders also having the same issue which using RTL-SDR also cannot get the location settings as well as adjust antenna height option in the configuration page. Strange case.

saihoufung

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the info. I will just leave this feeder offline and will delete it after 36 hours of inactivity.

I followed the instruction but not working.
