Out of date flight plan?

Hi All,

So what’s happening with this flight plan? Photo from piaware: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N70712

I live no where near Alaska, and yet, Flight Aware thinks this 2+ year old flight is in Las Vegas.

Thanks!

You’re comparing two different aircraft. The tail # of the aircraft in PiAware is N609TW, and the data is consistent with what we show on the website: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N609TW.

Thanks for the reply.

I see what you’re saying, but I don’t understand how N609TW or 70712 appear on my flight map, both are not in Nevada.

The flight aware link on the pop up has a URL of:
https://flightaware.com/live/modes/a7ea6c/ident/70712/redirect
So that’s how I thought it was related to the flight.

“70712” is the Ident being transmitted by the aircraft (that does not mean it is tail N70712). Why it is set to that value I can’t say but there could be a number of explanations. One possibility is that the ICAO hex code is misprogrammed in the aircraft’s transponder and the aircraft is not really N609TW.

Hi @ericcarlson,

So it’s an issue with the aircraft transmitting that value and nothing related to flightaware?

Yes, the aircraft likely is misprogrammed. FlightAware is not doing anything wrong here; we’re just simply displaying the information we are receiving.

If you Google the ICAO hex code you will find some sources that report it is being used by a military U-28A (serial 07-0712) – which would explain the Ident you are seeing.
