Big Planes Alert! - We need it - Please!

There are so many different variations of 747 and some other aircraft that it is difficult to set up alerts for all of them. I’m not even sure how to get a list of every type of 747, just every type in the air right now. I don’t know what the 747 SP is listed as for example.

It would be great if there was a way to set up one alert for ALL 747s, or All large aircraft. I imagine there are lots of people who would like a warning when any large aircraft was coming to their airport.

There are not that many ICAO codes for the B747.

B741 Boeing 747-100
B742 Boeing 747-200
B743 Boeing 747-300
B744 Boeing 747-400
B748 Boeing 747-8
B74R Boeing 747SR
B74S Boeing 747SP

When you get 5 total free alerts, 7 types of 747s seems like a lot. And how can I find those codes for each aircraft? Is there a list someplace?

You can look up the ICAO codes at the following link.

icao.int/publications/DOC864 … fault.aspx

I like using this list:

cfapp.icao.int/Doc8643/reports/P … tor(Decode.pdf

Only a couple of them are operating with any significant volume.

Although it is only for flights in the air, this will show how many of any aircraft type is currently in the air so you can see the most commonly used types.

beckerm13, Marty,
Thanks for the list of aircraft types. That is is very helpful.

I understand there is a business model at work here and the idea is Flightaware would prefer you are a paying customer vs. using a free account. What I’m asking for could be accomplished with a premium account.

As a aircraft photo enthusiast, the free account is an amazing resource, but the $20/month account is way out of reach. $240 a year is just to much for what I would use it for.
