Any interesting trends from Covid-19

Yesterday was down but not as much as I’d expect, today looks very low already.

Here in Mauritius we start to curtail passenger entry from a new set of countries as from 20:00 this evening so I guess in a few days or so after aircraft have re-positioned etc to see a drop in flights due to cancellations around 30 to 50% of our daily flights are to and from Reunon Island our nearest neighbour and that island is in the new measures. There will be flights for citizens to return to Mauritius from other countries but if countries start to close airports then these flights will obviously not take place. As has been said the other day the time may still come yet where people post a message to say that they have tracked a flight and not days when they have hundreds

That is Microsoft Excel chart only. I am doing an export by simply copy and paste the data from time to time. The history is 30 days, so within this period you need to do it at least once

Excel is having some automatic query available, but the data in the stats are generated in a way excel does not understand and i did not find time to look at it.

Data for today will be pretty similar compared to yesterday

Yepp, yesterday it was lower for me as well, even as on Tuesday.
i never made it higher than 90 aircraft at the same time, very unusual for a weekday.
Long term checking it’s already 10-20% less than on Christmas evening.

Today it seem to be even lower. First four hours of the day. normally i see 110 at around 8:

I use this as well, but for different purpose.
However it does not give you all stats you get from FA page

Today I’m seeing around 20% fewer aircraft than the same time yesterday.

I’m on the West coast of the UK, so see a lot of European transatlantic traffic. I’m really surprised by how little reduction I’m seeing overall.

Also, very impressed with some of the graphs & dashboards you guys are producing. What tools are you using @bramjacobse and @foxhunter .

That won’t show the full story compared to your own radar station airplane count history. Airlines like Delta are cutting flights by 70 to 80% for April and grounding more than half their fleets. Pretty sure those cut flights don’t show up as “cancelled” every day for months anywhere since they just won’t exist in any system. April airspace will be significantly strange to watch.

Many months from now our personal radar stations will be one great indicator of the inevitable region by region recovery to normal life. Until then, stay home and stay safe!
