Would appreciate some advice

@foxhunter
As said I am on the top floor, and both buildings do have the same height. Will change the position again and see what happens.
But seeing what happened when I rotated my antenna, I think it is a better option to go for the Flightaware antenna. with a LNA filter.

There is perhaps a small problem, it looks like that in The Netherlands no-one is selling the original Flightaware antenna. ( Read that someone bought one, but the Flightaware staff said in this forum that is wasn’t there’s

Have you looked here?

Thanks for the link, but this one is Olive green and if I remember well in a thread someone bought a love green as well and the comment was this is not ours. Perhaps I do not remember its correctly, but I am pretty sure.

Found the thread:

Original FlightAware Antenna?

US Amazon has a no questions return policy. I presume it is the same in your country. The other purchaser did not buy from Amazon. You can always inquire directly with Amazon. If in doubt, I wouldn’t make a decision based on a poor quality internet image either.

Thank you for the reply. I did not only check the image. Went to the side of the vendor and checked the color there as well. IMHO the original is black

I have 4 of the antennas and none of them are black. I can’t see them from my location but IIRC they are a dark grey. Just make sure they have the FlightAware branding near the antenna base.

could you please be so kind and show me the new branding so I can check?

The branding is a label with the name FlightAware along with frequency info. I couldn’t find a full image. A partial image is on the FA product page here.

Could be different traffic/flights on different days. If you screenshot the current flights then rotate the antenna 90 degrees, do some of the flights disappear?

@tech0

Thank you very much. Will check the branding. It looks like image I saw on. the “olive” green one.

@kenf3
Yes it does. have been outside this afternoon and rotated the antenna in several positions. I could see the drop in planes I saw.

I really hope everyone is talking about the same axis of rotation here.

Is that tube with the PCB antenna that directional?

@wiedehopf

It is the antenna you recommended me some time ago. :slight_smile:

Rotation around the vertical axis of the antenna …

This PCB antenna is a vertical Dipole 2 x 1/4 wavelength limbs, and it’s theoretical gain is about 2 dBi, or even less if poorly designed/made. On the other hand Flightaware antenna has a tested & guaranteed gain of 6 dBi.

I have this PCB antenna, and it is an eye wash. I no more use it. I now use FA antenna and DIY V-Stub antenna. The FA Antenna gives me the best performance compared to all other antennas I have used / am using.

Thank you for the expansion This is exactly what I did.

@abcd567
Thank you for the photos. As mentioned before I am looking for the Flightaware antenna. I just was not sure I could find the original, as there are a lot of bad copies on the internet.

The brand of the antenna seem to vary from country to country.

In Germany the Antenna sent with their receiver is often the Jetvision antenna. I can also highly recommend this one (i am using it) but it depends if they ship to your country.

No, it should be the same everywhere.
(not sure about color variations)

They just don’t send the FA antenna with their Flightfeeders but rather another antenna.

@tech0

I contacted the vendor. They confirmed it is not an original Flightaware antenna.
