USAToday article about tax dollars and GA airports.

This should get some good comments. Sorry for not posting the story itself. Debug thing annoyed me.

Another fine example of how totally fucking ignorant the media is about aviation! The article fails to mention the benefit of G.A. airports siphoning off traffic from the big “commercial” airports. :unamused:

Yeah - close down all the little G.A. fields and then see what that does the air traffic problem at the big airports.

MORONS!

Ladies and Gentlemen, and I use the term loosely, a working link:

MY BAD!!!

I fixed it. Thought I hit the “=” key…

The one notable fact everyone needs to remember from that article is this: “The USA has 231,000 private airplanes - more than twice as many as every other country in the world combined, according to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association”.

Here is a link to the FAA’s Airport Improvement program page:

faa.gov/airports/aip/grant_histories/

There is a link there to learn more about what the program does and what airport projects are eligible.

If you want, you can search the file to see the money airports in your area got for grants and what the projects included.

I have yet to drive every single Interstate highway in the US, but I pay a dollar a gallon in taxes to support the federal highway system. On my daily commute I don’t get on a single federal highway.

I’m outraged, there’s people driving on luxurious, traffic free roads in the middle of Kansas on my dime! :unamused:

The only time I read that rag at all is when I my suitcase rolls over it when I’m walking out of my hotel room. Luckily, they’ll be out of business soon enough.

A dollar a gallon? Really? Here in California we are only paying about 40 cents in federal and state taxes…

gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp

In PA it’s a shade under 70 cents. Close enough, it’s a pain to type here on a BB. My point still stands though…

Ok, sorry. That is a lot…

I always figured it was taxes from all the lefties and tree huggers out there that kept your gas prices consistently the highest in the nation.
Lower 48 at least gasbuddy.com/GB_Price_List.aspx?cntry=USA

On topic: Airports in rural areas have to be built and improved BEFORE the people move in or they will never be built.

NO, that is entirely wrong! The gas taxes in California are 63.9 cents a gallon, the highest in the nation.

You have not only federal and California gas taxs but also up to 10% sales tax on top of that. In other words, you are paying a tax on a tax when you buy gasoline.

The first place I saw $4\gallon gas was on a trip in Cali, scared the s out of me. Is that 64 cents PLUS 18.4 c?

Back on topic. We should have a thread entitled “USA Today’s daily air travel trashing”

Today’s Gem

Airline workers may spread H1N1, expert says
of course they are leaving out the fact that EVERYONE can spread H1N1, and it’s also not a problem!!! I believe in free speech, but there has to be a little responsibility.

Of course their biggest customer is Hilton, Holiday Inn, etc. Ummm, Gannett, how do you think those people get to those hotels???

Another site breaks it down better for the state side of the tax.
No, the 18.4 cents is not included.

The tax in Alameda County (where I live) is 9.75%
18.4 cents federal excise tax
39.9 cents state excise tax
58.3 cents total excise tax
58.3 cents x 9.75% =5.7 cents

58.3 cents + 5.7 cents = 64 cents

Gas in my area is between $3.10 and $3.20 a gallon.

And I don’t believe the hotel room is operating-room clean when I walk into it. Was that story in the same issue?

i was sitting in front of safeway and it donned on me, gas prices always include all the taxes, while everything else doesnt.

im sure glad arco dont say gas 2.22 a gallon plus tax.
then there would be 60 cents per gallon in taxes.
if i were a gas station id rather the people buying my product trashed the gvmt for the high prices not me.

actually i would rather all other stores make prices all including taxes.

Here in California each pump shows the amount of federal and state excise taxes that is included in the price of the gas.

I’d like to apologize in advance for killing everyone and destroying the human race.

Can I be the first one to say Thank You?

The Tulsa World ran a similar story, but MUCH more balanced. D.R. Stewart does a decent job for the Tulsa World when reporting on aviation.
