Unless you are on American or Northwest. In the case of those two airlines, there’s nothing like just being able to get off the airplane!
It is the oversize part of it that really gets me. It seems that not many train employees to stop passengers from checking oversize bags.
It is a problem when boarding, I have to wait for the passenger with the oversize bag to find room for it. Once they find a place it takes time to stuff it in, and in some cases for them to now go back to the front of the plane to sit down. Have half the flight do that and it takes longer to board and delays the flight.
Deplaning also takes a while. The passenger has to pull it out, if its a roller bag they need to get the handle out and roll it. If its too wide to roll down the isle they need to carry it to the front of the plane (making them walk slower), where they will stop at the doorway to pull that handle out. In November I watched a dozen people get off with bags without wheels. They all stopped right outside of the jetway and put together these strap on set of wheels. It took longer to deplane. Half the people on the flight do this kind of stuff and again, it takes a long time to get off if seated in the back of the plane. If connections get close, it can be bad enough that you could miss the connection.
It can also be annoying to step around everyones bag in the food court and other places.
So I guess my problem is with all other passengers and the oversize bag issue.
I’d rather have passengers with oversized bags than oversized passengers checking their bags! ![]()
Now they are going to charge for all checked baggage and start charging for sodas.. They will also reduce fares, including walk-up fares, by 10 to 40 percent.
Sounds like Spirit’s management as been observing Ireland’s Ryanair
I don’t know about the lowering of the fares. I checked a DTW/LGA one way, refundable and non-refundable fares for two dates. The non-refundable fare are $159 in March and $179 in July. The refundable fare is $349 for both March and August.
Gonna put on my Dami hat here for a second. Would someone please enlighten me as to what TINSTAAFL stands for?
There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
TANSTAAFL is an acronym for the adage “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch,” popularized by science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein in his 1966 novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, which discusses the problems caused by not considering the eventual outcome of an unbalanced economy. This phrase and book are popular with libertarians and economics textbooks. In order to avoid a double negative or usage of the the word “ain’t”, the acronym “TINSTAAFL” is sometimes used instead, meaning “There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch”.
The phrase refers to the once-common tradition of saloons in the United States providing a “free” lunch to patrons, who were required to buy at least one drink.
Take it for what it is worth, came off of wikipedia.
Thanks, Pika.
Though I’ve never seen any actually go to the trouble of abbreviating it, I’m sure it means “There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.”
(I actually like typing and think abbreviations are WAY over done!)
EDIT: Didn’t see Pika’s reply because it was on the next page from the original question.
Unless you can pronounce an abbreviation, it’s not considered an acronym. By definition, an acronym is a pronounceable abbreviation. Although, I guess you could pronounce TINSTAAFL due to the interlacing of the vowels and constants.
“ADLAADS” stands for “A day late and a dollar short”. See 2 posts above yours…
It’s great to pronounce TINSTAAFL, and treat it like it’s some sort of german school of philosophy.
Rhymes with “tin’s awful” just throw in a T.
All rules of science are in compliance with TINSTAAFL, or they are false. This even applies to social sciences such as economics.
Also, for us general aviation types, it applies to airplane purchase and ownership.
Would someone please enlighten me as to what TINSTAAFL stands for?
There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.
Heinlein was a common user of the term, to the point that he’s often given as the source for it even though it predates him by many years.
He most often wrote it as TANSTAAFL, There Ain’t instead of There Isn’t.
EDIT: Didn’t see Pika’s reply because it was on the next page from the original question.
Ditto! Mea culpa.
Is everyone having the same issue that when you click on the little folder icon that usually takes you to your last read post, it just takes you to the end of page 1, no matter what you have read?
Random, I know, but just wondering if that could be the cause of the multiple answers before seeing mine.

Yep, it’s a Cookie failure, mostly notable in Firefox.
Flushing the cookies for the forum from your browser and logging in again will usually correct the problem.
Allegiant air also charges for checked bags. $4 round-trip. if your booking on-line they have a question that asks you if your checking bags, if put 0 and you show up at the airport, they charge you there at the airport for your bags that you check. if you put 1 then at the airport decide not to check…no refund
How is Allegiant? Service, on time performance, aircraft interiors, etc…?

everytime i have flown them they have always been on time. The aircraft interiors are very nice, all leather coach class seating, however the seats dont recline, which is kind of nice. there is also alot of leg room between the seats. Allegiant charges you for everything, checked bags, advance seating (although if you wait and get your seats at the airport you get better seats if you like the front of the plane), charge for driks, snacks and gifts that you may purchase onboard. but overall, i do like allegiant and the prices aren’t that bad
So they will reserve you a seat near the JT8’s? How do they board the rest? Open seating - first come first serve? Boarding groups? Just curious.
From my area they have great fares and packages to LAS ~$85 one way, direct flight of 1hr45mn. Alaska/Horizon’s best deal is $150 one way and three segments over nine hours.
Allegiant’s website is confusing, especially since they don’t have daily service.

And your area is? 1+45 to LAS and ASA, I venture to guess SEA or GEG, probably the latter.
