There are lot of HAM enthusiasts in this forum like @keithma, @caius, @geckoVN, @SweetPea11, @Dxista, and many more, who will be interested.

‘Ham/ham’ please - It’s neither an abbreviation or an acronym so HAM is inappropriate

/edit - I have a couple of Pis running amateur radio stuff, one is a QRSS grabber and the other is a receive only APRS i-gate. I’ve also used Pis for WSPR and other data modes with fldigi. I’m always keen to know what other things I can use them for in the hobby.

KM4ACK has assembled a great build for a Pi that runs most desired software - it worked for me right off the blocks. I’ll keep one Pi dedicated to PiAware 1090 and the other is my portable connection to a CRKits 40m WSJT-X FT8 transceiver for QRP use http://crkits.com/ - KM4ACK has a HotSpot configuration so you can use a tablet to control the Pi from nearby. I just sent for the QRPGuys transceiver for 20/30/40m FT8 QRPGuys DSB Digital Transceiver Kit - QRPGuys

I’m quite happy with SOTAbeams antennas for field use https://www.sotabeams.co.uk/ with these dedicated FT8 transceivers or my Elecraft KX2.

I prefer to call them “Amateur Radio Operators” rather than HAM

I keep looking at that kit, it does seem like a fun little build.

I must admit that ‘ham’ seems a bit too American for me - I prefer amateur radio to ham every day of the week  but that’s my British stiff upper lip kicking in

I’ve had this long standing but low level desire to get a license. Even bought and studied part of the book but it was a slowww slog for me.

KB4ERT is also a HAM Radio Operator or Amateur Radio Operator…

There are too many packages out there, but the ‘new trend’ is to have an image, just like Piaware, with the most common/popular packages pre-installed.

A few that I know of are:

PiSDR

W3DJS

YAPI
