So now for the big money question!
Why are the same three parameters in
/usr/share/dump1090-fa/html/config.js
-and -
/usr/share/skyaware/html/config.js ?!?
This is a transition stage. There are currently two maps, the old dump1090-fa map and new skyaware map. The old dump1090-fa map will be removed in next version.
The file /usr/share/dump1090-fa/html/config.js controls the map at following address:
ip-of-pi/dump1090-fa/
The file /usr/share/skyaware/html/config.js controls the map at following address:
ip-of-pi/skyaware/

When I bring up the FA map at :8080 I set the circles using the settings link on the page. It works first time every time - no messing with config files.

Are the two maps functionally the same? (if there is a post about this feel free to point me there!)
I never user the above before. I always used the ip-of-pi/:8080 address. So I am guessing that will be deprecated also!

The change was made with the release of PiAware 5.
From PiAware 5 that address shows the new map.
