Just got PiAware transmitting to FlightAware from my Pi3 but I would like to save some of the data it receives. Does FlightAware itself offer such a feature? Or, has anyone set up a local repository to store data received directly from the device?

For local storage, search for database in the forums. I found a few.
There can be a service life issue with constant writing to an SD card.
They are so cheap nowadays that you could use a larger one, say 32GB, to spread the load.
Others have used external databases, like those on NAS or other devices.
