Question about "Positions reported"

Do we have some more technical details how these are calculated/determined?

I’m wondering how large differencies can happen with a similar amount of aircraft.
One extreme example is this receiver located in Switzerland with almost 10 times higher position rate.

Is it just because he’s close to ZRH Airport? Or is the range another factor?
Would like to get a little more insight on position reporting on ADS-B

Local beacons, there seem to be a lot of messages without many aircraft?
