when trying to install Piaware 7.1 loading it to the sd card kept failing. repeated the flashing to the card a few more times with the same issue. so i downloaded the file again and retried with the same results. gave up waited a few days. tried again and it worked. anyone had this issue or know why it happened.

I’ve had a different failure mode.
I pulled a working card that had become unreliable, and flashed it with a new image. This worked perfectly for a small number of reboots before failing again. I formatted the card and reflashed. Again it worked perfectly for a small number of reboots and failed again.
Testing the card in a PC showed no problems at all.
On the plus side, a failing SD card takes up very little space in your rubbish bin.
There is a bug in balena if you’re using that … try the Raspberry Pi Imager instead.

But only with the Piaware image?
I am still using Etcher for any image. The only error at the end is this one below, but the installation went fine and i can use it as usual.
yeah that has happened to me before. i just presume the bug had bugged out 
So it’s connected to some versions of windows or something … i don’t know.
But there have been issues lately.
And even a false error message can mean people assume it’s failed.
Better to use a tool that won’t display false error messages.
Ah, that might make sense. I am using Balena Etcher on my Linux Notebook where the error appear but obviously without impact.
Looks like the error i get is not new. This thread is two years old:
For last 8 years, I have been using only Win32DiskImager, and never faced such issues. It is a very reliable microSD card imager.
Testing this one, no errors after the image has been written.
