New PiAware User Cannot Get Connection to Claim w/ FlightAware, 7 Days and Frustrated

OK I’m sorry thank you for the help I know that I’m frustrating to work with because I’m not an IT guy I’m in airplane sales guy trying to make this work and I appreciate all of your patience I’m doing the steps as you give them to me but it takes me about 30 minutes to try something because I’m just not savvy here

the adsb-project is not something someone should attempt that isn’t able to get the basic piaware running.

Which instructions were you following when you came to the forum?

@scottshatzer It’s fine you are getting there

Oh I completely agree that’s why I was asking for some support from Flight Aware as the box they sent me that I use at my Florida residence works great and simple turn it on connect it and bam its done but this is a nightmare in the making here.
I don’t know that I have a neither options from what I’m told this is sort of what you have to do.

So follow obj’s suggestion and reimage the sdcard:

When you are unclear about the instructions there you can still ask.

Yeah, best solution is just to re-image the latest PiAware and then insert into the Raspberry Pi then that is, wait for moments and find out your Raspberry Pi’s IP address, then 1st thing you should check is from the web browser.

Type your “Raspi_IP_Addresss” at the browser, then a PiAware screen will pop up and guide you to claim the feeder-ID into your FlightAware Acount. Good luck.

Windows internet explorer/edge, firefox or chrome.

OK so I will do the re-image and see how it goes from there. Thanks again everyone.

Before reimaging, try this:

Type in browser of another computer (laptop or desktop):

http://ip-of-pi/**dump1090-fa**

Use actual ip address in place of ip-of-pi

OMG, look I finally have some ray of hope here?!?! Ok, this worked form another machine so what’s next?

I almost always do this, and it always goes excellent.

Etcher & Win32DiskImager are my best friends: alwayse save me from headache and frustration of debugging.

Still unable to claim the piAware on the FA website so should I call them with the ID number so they can engage it manually?

looks an old version of PiAware - 3.10?

Indeed. Why not use the current version?

I haven’t had a chance to do it (mostly because this is all very foreign to me ) and that’s the version that came installed on the kit that I bought so I will have to upgrade It.

Don’t upgrade, re-image the SD card. Download version 3.6.3 from the FA webpage. While there, follow the instructions to the letter. If your kit came with instructions, suggest you ignore them.

This old PiAware version is exactly the problem. 3.1.0 is almost exactly 2 years old now and we no longer support such an old version for creating new sites (it does not support feeder ids which are now used for all new sites). I guess the supplier of the kit has some very old sdcards sitting in the Amazon warehouse…

As suggested, please re-image the sdcard with the latest version (3.6.3) and try again.

I think one of the problems was the OP assumed it’s one of your products.
https://www.amazon.com/FlightAware-Complete-Raspberry-1090MHz-Antenna/dp/B01EXILMOC/

But it’s actually a resale of components at an ridiculous price.
I guess it’s a losing battle to tell amazon that this kit is not produced by you.

Amazon is clear about this, if not obvious. Please note the above kit is labeled: “Ships from and sold by Custom Cables Group LLC.” They are a third party reseller.

Individual parts sold directly by FlightAware will say “Sold by FlightAware.”

In addition to that, in Canada at least, it should say “Fulfilled by Amazon”, if you want the option of free shipping and returns.

Looks like Amazon Canada is also out of stock of the Pro+.

It still says “by flightaware”. Many companies produce goods that are sold by a 3rd party. This could be one such product.
It’s clear to me that you don’t have products which are resold by 3rd parties at least in US on amazon. Technically the seller is still using your name to sell his product. Now i don’t know how Amazon handles such cases, it’s probably a fight against windmills.

Anyway i just wanted to clear the confusion that maybe existed with the buyer.

That, in its simplest form, can be confusing. I always ignore the “by” under the title, if it’s a brand name item, and go by the “Ship, Sold, Fulfilled”.

Amazon Market is more like eBay. I never paid attention to what kind of ‘buyer protection’ they have. eBay has been very good on that front.

It’s ‘Buyer beware’.
