Mobile device mis-detection

Just reporting what I consider a bug –

I don’t know if something has been changed, but my Safari and Chrome browsers are often detected as mobile devices. That’s sort of OK, but in addition to that, when I click on the link to go to the non-mobile site I get redirected back to the mobile site. Weeks ago when this happened, the non-mobile link (or just a refresh) might take me to the non-mobile site, but now I have to resort to changing my user-agent. This isn’t too big of a problem for me (more of a minor annoyance), but I could imagine some non-technical folks being quite confused.

Can you post the user agent(s) that gives you the mobile site? And those that don’t.

I’ve been having the opposite problem getting the desktop version occasionally on my OS6 Blackberry.

To clarify – this is intermittent, but when it happens it’s fairly consistent for some period of trying (5 minutes or so).

Safari (bug seen on occasion):

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7) AppleWebKit/534.48.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Safari/534.48.3

Chrome (bug seen on occasion):

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_0) AppleWebKit/535.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/13.0.782.112 Safari/535.1

Safari, set to Firefox 4.0.1 user-agent (using the convenient “Develop” menu; works when the default user-agent fails):

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1

I have experienced this with my Android phone lately as well. Sometimes it goes to the mobile site, sometimes it goes to the regular site.

We think this is fixed now.

My Android is still going to the full site.

Did you ever choose that? If so, have you cleared cookies since?

Can you post your Android’s user agent from Session Diagnostics - FlightAware?

It used to always go to the mobile site. I have cleared the cache and cookies to see if that would work, but it didn’t.

The user agent data is below:

Browser is Mozilla/5.0(Android 2.3.3)

It does say it is a mobile device, but still directs me to the full site. Not a big issue, other than it triggers a warning about vector rendering being unsupported.

So far, so good for me. I’ll definitely post if I see this issue return.

I’ve started seeing the mis-detection again w/ Safari on a couple of machines. The link to the non-mobile site works, though, so it’s less of an issue than before, but I thought I’d report it. I don’t think my user-agents have changed.

Did you experience the issue today after 5:30p Eastern? We pushed a workaround that should have abated it.

I haven’t experienced it today at all.
