Well, again, this is a DIFFERENT book than the one I have. It’s very likely that the book I have is from a different author and it gives essentially the same reason. I will find the book at home and provide more info on it.
In the many books that you’ve read about Boeing and its airplanes, what other reasons have been given?
As I quoted from the Air Britain book above, “A new system of number was introduced in the early 1950s, so the new transport was renumbered into the 700 block…”
Quite often, you’ll find the simplest explanation is the correct one. They renumbered their modeling system and picked 700 for transports.
