I would operate a throwback with Dc-10s,L011s, 306s and 742s on high density domestic routes w. Dc-9 and 727 on mid/low, and operate a long haul and short haul int’l service with 744, 762, Dc10 and Tri stars f long haul, and 727 for short haul.
wearin khaki shorts, vuarnets, flip flips and a white short sleeve shirt with epaulets (dont wanna get too out of uniform )
of course, after the last tie up of the day…pilot debrief at Ricks outdoor cafe… I think I could overcome the whiney pax over forgetting thier camera, or the puddle jumper jokes.
Not a 300 series Will, but here’s a cool vid of a 772 doing a picture perfect go around, shot from in front of the right wing/engine area. And I don’t remember if it was you or not, but this shows the condensation forming on the top of the wings (around the 3:30 mark) as the jet is climbing out (for whomever was asking about that before). cool stuff…
why would you want to be a ceo in an industry that is at the whim of so many things that you have no control over. you cant control fuel prices, you dont have a direct relationship with your employees (union), you deal with the public, your industry has been unprofitable for most of its existance.
its like the california gold rush days, the miners didnt get rich, the people that boarded them and the shops that sold supplies are the ones that got rich.
If i was a ceo of an airline, id sell it and be the airport that boards the airplanes, or be the airline manufacture that supplies the airlines with airplanes and parts.
airlines/airplanes are a luxury not a necessity like people think. when times get rough, i dont turn to flying more and driving less, i drive more and fly less.
its like the postal service too, with email and unlimmited long distance on cell phones , personal letters have fallen by more than 75%. the post office survives by packages. same thing with airlines, with teleconfrencing and high prices, pax and companies are motivated to fly less and use cheaper means to do business, airlines are surviving by packages or cargo.
Im trying to think of a scenerio that has a manufacturer making a product at a loss, than a customer using that product to make a profit also at a loss, then a consumer using that final product, at a small cost. only thing i can think of is the government, oh and airlines. seems like the winners are the pax and anybody getting a pay check.
The Airline industry is very successful when compared to Passenger Rail and Mass Transit - especially when you realize how much government makes off the industry in fuel taxes, pfc’s, 9/11 tax, customs fees, and landing fees. The airline industry is only slightly unprofitable (though consistently so). Amtrak is subsidized to the tune of 50%. Some mass transit systems are subsidized at 90% or more!
understood, im not saying other forms of transportation are better or even cheaper, maybe if we didnt subsidize other forms more would fly and be profitable.
Hmmm. If I were the CEO of my own airline, I’d do the following. I’d hire the best crews and pay them well to avoid my employees trying to unionize against me. Then I build strong relations with 2 or 3 major airlines and become their feeder service. Continental, United, or Aero Mexico.
I’d invest in the Embraer 170/190 variants and of course my hubs would be where ever my alliance airlines tell me to fly from. Then when things start to get sticky, I might fly some of the EAS routes until the industry was healthy again.
Yep, those are Rolls Royce Trent 892’s. All of Emirates 777’s use the RR Trents except the 777-300ERs which use the GE-90-115B as it is the only engine available. The description says the plane in the video is A6-EMP and that is a standard 777-300.
No hubs, although there will be connecting opportunities at many airports
All coach aircraft
Various models of one type of aircraft (probably 737 - it’s a very versatile aircraft)
Decent leg room (at least 32")
No charge for the first two pieces of luggage; reasonable rates for the 3rd and 4th piece
Free peanuts and/or pretzels and/or chips on shorter flights
The above plus cookies and/or crackers on longer flights (over ~2 hours)
Service to smaller airports in areas with more than one airport in addition to the main airport in the area
Wait! That sounds familiar but I just can’t put my finger on what is familiar about it
