Flight Route Variation

Folks,

I’ve just returned from San Diego to London Heathrow, direct flight by BA.

My outward journey was tracked by a friend using Flightaware and FlightRadar24 and both appear to vary considerably.

Flightaware seems more South, out over N Ireland, missing Iceland, South of Greenland then in over Canada and US whereas Flighradar24 suggests Scotland, passing over Southern Iceland and Greenland then Canada and US.

Any suggestions as to why this would be?

Without knowing the date it’d be very hard to say since we can’t compare them.

That shows a route over Iceland.

That flight you screenshotted is entirely estimated, you want flightaware.com/live/flight/BAW2 … /EGLL/KSAN which has the actual track.

Not sure why there’s a dupe on that day.

Thank you, starting to understand.

Friend tracked the route as I was obviously on the plane. I did watch the onboard video of the journey but cannot recall precisely the route.

I thought he was tracking ‘LIVE’ at the time as he had Flightradar24 on too at the time.

When you say estimated is that the flightplan?
