I am taking a trip to France in the winter and I was just browsing some past flights from SFO to CDG. I noticed that on the filght track from 10/25 the flight looked like it was diverted to ORD. Anyone happened to know the reason why? It looked like it was a huge diversion.
Is this regarding AFR83 (If you have a question about a specific flight, it helps to indicate which filght it is.)
The flight log doesn’t show any diversion to ORD. The apparent diversion is more than likely related to the disclaimer shown on maps of all international flights:
At least part of this flight occurs outside of FlightAware’s service area. Information on this page may be unreliable.
The Questions/Answers on international flights says:
How does FlightAware handle international flights?
Short answer: Not very well.
Long answer: FlightAware can only track aircraft that are being tracked by the FAA, which means aircraft only in the United States. For flights arriving in the US from an international origin, FlightAware will be able to track the flight once it is handed off to the US. For flights departing the US for an international destination, FlightAware will be able to track the flight until it leaves the US and then it will be lost with no arrival ever recorded or the arrival time will be the time it left the US.
