Peter,
Where was that from? and do you mind me asking how much (in NZD is fine) its ended up costing you? it’ll give me an idea of how much to get it here to Sydney.
thanks,
Andrew

After 3 hrs of use, I found that I needed to add the external 1090 filter to the Pro Stick Plus in order to receive data from aircraft beyond 100 NM.
After doing that and changing back to automatic gain control, I am now seeing aircraft typically out to 220 NM. (FA antenna height 33 ft MSL with no obstructions)
My “aircraft seen” count seems so have, roughly, increased about 5% with the Pro Stick Plus after 36 hrs now in service.
…and we’re back in stock with Amazon USA! amazon.com/dp/B01M7REJJW
Nvm, over read one line.
+1 ordered. I have the blue nooelec unit with no filter. Hopefully this helps with range.

Hmm… What am I missing here?
1st graph is the FlightAware Pro Stick with a FA filter
Did I get a bad FlightAware Pro Stick Plus? Should I send it back?
Arrived, one installed (on secondary system)
…and this morning I’m tracking
NCC1701A (AE094E, a U2 out of Beale AFB) 60000 feet, 390 kt, doing a leisurely loop of Northern California.
Applause for someone’s sense of humour…

@wnypoker
What gain setting you used with (1) ProStick+Filter (2) ProStick Plus?
Try increasing/decreasing gain settings for ProStick Plus.
Well, you’re not running identical software according to the version numbers (and presence/absence of a distance column) in those screenshots, maybe you should eliminate that as a variable to begin with.

Hi Andrew,
I purchased mine directly off Amazon as I have a US postal address I can use, which is quite handy for such things! The parcel arrives there then some kind individual sends it on to NZ, still waiting to hear how much shipping will be from US.
I don’t see how that could be.
My system was running with the ProStick, so I powered off the PI from the command line, put in the new stick, watched it for a few minutes, saw how much it dropped.
So then I powered down the same PI, put the old stick in and took a screenshot a few minutes later to show what I was a worried about.
I used the piware disk image for the install.
Any ideas what it would report different version numbers?
I’d try forcing refresh of the map page as a starting point; the “unknown” version + lack of a distance column means something went wrong when fetching the receiver metadata, which is the first thing that dump1090 writes out.
Failing that, take a look at the logs for any errors.
For what it’s worth, comparison photo of the new blue dongle (top) and orange dongle (bottom). I see an improvement in solder and board vias, overall the new PCB looks better in my opinion. Well done. While have only had for a few hours, it seems to perform a bit better than having the filter in front of the LNA as with the orange dongle + external filter setup. No concrete data, but over all nicely done FA. This will make for a fantastic budget setup along with your antenna.
EDIT: Sorry for the glare Yes that was almost a solder-short on the orange dongle (bottom-right), has since been fixed
Hi all,
Hopefully my ones arrive Monday. Anyone who has already got on, any difference in gain settings you may have been using with your old Pro stick and your new pro stick plus?? I am suspecting given the specs, shouldn’t be much of a difference at all.
Jeff

Well new Pro pluses have arrived as planned. Just doing a standard 10 x 5 gain tests on units to compare before and after figures. First thing noticed and missed is the absence to be able to view the orange indicator light through the case, indicating the stick is on and working. A handy visual aid as your walking by your equipment that all should be working correctly. Not sure if it is a thicker case that doesn’t let that led show through or that led is no longer in the schematics.
The pics provided by Nitr0 show no LED in the Pro Stick Plus.

It was usually the first thing to fail for some reason, so it’s not a great indicator anyway. and it confused some people (witness at least one thread on here with people demanding that they know what the LED does!).
