Under Airport Infopage, flightaware needs to update O’Hare Airport, extended runway 10/28 . No longer 10,000 but has been extended 13000. I wonder if that’s a feed or has to be manually updated ? A separte Airport Forum would get alot of traffic. Wether traffic or infastructure topics ?
Since we are the subject of Chicago. Flew in and out of MDW this past weekend. never realized how short their runways were until my Ipod flew 13 rows up front from the seat next to me on landing. Any news on them ever expanding/lengthening?
As long as it isn’t being used, I don’t think any flight attendant is going to require something as small as an iPod to be removed from the seat. On numerous occasions, I’ve had small items like a book (much bigger and heavier than an iPod) on the seat next to me during takeoff and landing and nothing was said.
I had a similar experience with a book (Yogi Berra’s Ten Rings…good stuff). Coming into ISP, damn book slid almost all the way up front. I didn’t think we were going to stop that time. Heavy breaking to say the least. Fun stuff!
Boeing Field Eliminates Landing Fees for
Light Aircraft
Boeing Field (KBFI) has suspended landing fees for aircraft weighing less than 12,500 pounds. The move is said to be a show of support for general aviation traffic at the Seattle airport.
I don’t think there are any plans, but I can remember the media making some to do about it when that Southwest 73 came through the northwest corner and hit that car.
When I was at Chicago Express, I remember those hot August days with 32 people tailstand (on the SAAB) sticking in the ground full bags, and just takin every bit of the runway to get up and going. Fun times.
Especially since they re-did the terminal, MDW is one of my favorite airports.
The runways at MDW can’t be expanded without the city buying up the land around the airport and demolishing the area around it to make room. Otherwise, the best that they can do is decrease the length of the displaced threshhold of 13C/31C and 4R/22L, and there’s already little of that to begin with.
In other news, 25L/7R is closed at LAS until May 2009 for repaving. this affects the calm wind configuration of the field (landing 25L, 19L, 29R, departing 25R, 19R, 19L). Unless winds dictate otherwise, Configuration 2 will be used:
Is it safe to assume that all the runways are going to be getting this, and would it be consecutively? Also, I assume 7R/25L, and the 1s/19s are going to get the same? Will they be A380 proof?
Wow… T3 is getting its own parking garage. Long overdue! Where is it going to be at in relation to T3?
25L is under referb from asphalt to concrete now, 25R was supposed to be in the same project, but due to budget constraints we are putting that off as well as the upgrade to taxiway CHARLIE. the 25L does include new high-speed taxiways as well. Not sure as to when 25R refurb is going to be rescheduled.
Both the 1/19’s were recently refurbed to concrete from asphalt, so nothing more to do on them…a few sections are being replaced under warranty, but nothing to close either down while 25L is being refurbed. All of our runways are built to Class 5 loads, so in theory we can handle an A380, but we do not intend to do so…not right now at least from an operations standpoint.
T3 is going to be located just north of the D Gates, and as far as I know, the gates in T3 will be labeled “E Gates”. we are just closing out the early civil pkg on the terminal bldg, with the terminal bldg beginning construction next month, and my garage contractor is mobilizing as I type this. The garage for T3 will be just north of the T3 bldg, and just south of the recently relocated Russell Road…the parking garage will be surrounded by the currently constructed roadway pkg…
I’ll see what I can find to post up…no links to pics on our website.
the old russell road in the center will be roughly the centerline of the new T3 terminal building. the large empty rectangle just north of that, is the footprint for the new garage…as I can, I post up what I can.
