Used for VIP transport– Vice President, Secretary of State, and such. Occasionally used as AF1 when the President is traveling somewhere that can’t handle a 747.
OK thanks. I was curious about the specific aircraft - who it might be assigned to, etc. Or is it a “pool” aircraft?
It’s a (small) pool. I guess frequent users may fall into a habit of using a certain one.
If VP is on board, the call sign will be AF2. You may also be able to figure out who’s on board based on travel schedules.
There isn’t always a VIP on board. Sometimes they’re just out practicing their touch-and-gos
