Hey all.
Not sure if this has been raised or not but in the current version the 787 still shows as a jumbo 4 engine plane with it’s icon.
3.8.1
There have been a few topics on the database that SkyAware uses including this one: https://discussions.flightaware.com/t/aircraft-type-shows-n-a/52836
I don’t know whether there were any changes made to the database in 3.8.2.
Basically there is a file containing a list of known aircraft types that is used to determine the icon that needs to be displayed but if there is no entry it seems to default to a generic type based on the size of aircraft.
It is possible to edit the list yourself although that assumes a certain level of technical ability.
There are a couple of posts on the subject including this one: https://discussions.flightaware.com/t/skyview-aircraft-symbols/48236
Thanks!
I have plenty of coding knowledge so will have a look at the GitHub and push a commit if I can find the file.
Thanks again for your reply and sorry for the double!
There is a community maintained webinterface someone made that is often more up to date in regards to icons, maybe take a look:
GitHub - wiedehopf/tar1090: Provides an improved webinterface for use with ADS-B decoders readsb / dump1090-fa
It uses the json files from whichever flavor of dump1090 is producing json files in one of the /run folders.
