2 Geographical locations combined for 1 site?

Thinking of doing another RPi install at my office which is about a mile and a half from my home site and was wondering if the both sites can be combined into one or will they be considered as seperate sites for stats?

I think that you can combine them into one feed with modesmixer and then send the combined data feed to FlightAware.

Any hints on how to use ModesMixer? Never heard of it to be honest.

Please see this thread which will give you some idea about modeSMixer2:

Feeding data from Piaware into Basestation

You can download the installation software on your Desktop/Laptop from here:
drive.google.com/file/d/0B7NYXi … Qwdkk/view

Use Windows software like WinSCP or FileZilla to copy file from your PC to RPi
#once on RPi, unzip the .tgz file:
sudo tar -xvf modesmixer2_rpi2-3_20170506.tgz

It’s best to stick with a separate piaware instance for each receiver. Otherwise mlat and some data sanity checking will break.

You can combine the data for your own use with modesmixer, dump1090, etc - just avoid feeding the combined results to piaware.

Is this the same as “aggregating” data??

That is what the word means, yes.

Thanks.

I agree with alsodon, here, who claims this technique is “BS”.

FA, in my opinion, should ban the use of position aggregating, because of effect on MLAT (affecting others too).
If the desire of showing higher stats is so strong with some users, maybe FA could add a column to the official stats that combines the results for multiple receivers attached to one user account.

There is already one, called “Top Users” under de.flightaware.com/adsb/stats .

It’s not what I was saying.

Look at number 1 on that list.
ADS-B=380k, MLAT=300K, Other=3000K.
The first two are “normal” numbers for one receiver, but the aggregated ones, shown as “other” are 10x those values. He has multiple sites. The users around the other locations cannot do MLAT with those.
Each site should have individual stats and the general user should have another stat, to make the happy and avoid hacking the real data.
