Did the reporter not see the photo when he wrote “The plane had no tail number…”?!? It looked to me like it has one.
The plane had no tail number, leading authorities to describe it as “experimental,” presumably homemade.
Even experimental aircraft need a tail number.
Probably cops were the leading authorities. A good example of why cops and others that are not specifically trained in aircraft accidents, should do nothing more than preserve the accident site.
Were they at the site measuring skid/scrape marks
They tried but they couldn’t get the water to stay still long enough to get an accurate measurement.
I must be rubbing off on you.
Reading that article…wow. Its reporters and “witnesses” like this that are a threat to general aviation. Three accidents in 6 years, yep definitely a dangerous airport. I bet there have been more accidents on the street that guy lives on than that. No control tower, how do we ever survive?
Shame on Coakley (the interviewed neighbor) for turning the mans death into a political event. May his house be infested with termites.
I tried to locate this airport in FlightAware. The natives, or at least the reporter, may call it Lantana Airport but the official name is Palm Beach County Park Airport. flightaware.com/live/airport/KLNA
In the article, Mr. Stupid says “You have helicopters flying wherever using whatever runway and pattern they please.”
Last time I checked helicopters don’t need no stinkin’ runway to begin with.
I think the article has been edited. I don’t see any mention in it about frequency of crashes or about tail numbers…
Maybe the reporter read y’all’s comments here.
Power to the people!
