Re-config maybe? 
I read another thread and it said it was N487HA and going to paint shop in VCV for repainting, and that all Hawaiian 717s will be repainted at VCV between now and next summer.
This shows the auxiliary fuel tanks needed for the trip (could maybe make it to VCV without them but would definitely need them going back to HNL against the wind).

Heavy 717 maintenance is done at MIA. Those flights go via OAK and use the tanks as well.
Gotta love the comments with that story
