What's happening here?

This airborne flight is showing as a 727 ( 727-100), yet Air Jamaica does not operate Boeings any longer. The map correctly shows it as an Airbus.

Also, this flight is inbound to CLE and I am anticipating its arrival shortly. It is showing as a 727-100 series as well, yet to my knowledge, Boston-Maine Airways do not operate the -100 series. I’ll know for sure in about a half-hour when I’ll see it outside my window, but I was just wondering why the anomoly?

Great stuff here as always otherwise!

Thanks,

The flight shows a 727 on several other days, also. It could be that AJM has leased a 727 to cover an aircraft shortage.

Boston-Maine Airways do not operate the -100 series.

It appears that the flight was filed as a B727 instead of B72Q or B722 so it defaults to the 100 series.

Hi, Chuck.

In the case of the AJM44, they filed the flight plan at 10:11Z as a B727/A and then departed as a A320/W without changing their flight plan. The maps tend to display more “real time” information whereas the tracking pages show more “as proposed” data.

They filed “B727,” which we default to displaying as a B727-100, but definitely it’s unclear. Folks operating the 727-200 tend to file it as a B722 or B72Q.

Ah…so it defaults over…that makes sense. Thanks for the info. As far as Air Jamaica leasing 727’s, it seems unlikely for any number of reasons… but stranger things have happened!

Thanks
