…a failure to communicate.
As a newbie, could not figure out why the default SkyAware map being displayed was of Switzerland. So, after leaving my RPi running for a few hours I touched base with SkyAware again. All new stuff being displayed but same map of Switzerland. Ignored that and looked at all the stuff on the right side of screen. Clicked an IDENT. VOILA! Proper map and everything.
IMO what is needed is for someone to write a theory of operation for this software. I still don’t know where all the data is coming from. Surely can’t be from me as I don’t have proper antenna as yet.
Thanks for listening…

Italy, probably. That’s the default when SkyAware doesn’t know your receiver location because you haven’t configured it.
Currently you do not have a claimed piaware site. Claim your site, then set your receiver location on the FlightAware website stats page for the site; the location information will get propagated back to your local SkyAware.
Local SkyAware data is exactly that, locally received. Even without a proper antenna you can receive a surprising amount of data locally. (Even a short bit of wire stuck into the center of the antenna connector will receive!)
Thank you. Working on a antenna.
So once claimed is it permanent or reconnect on every use?
it’s assigned to you as a user. no need to reconnect every time, the feeder-id is written in the config file once assigned.
