What is your current 30 day ranking?

mine is 976 not my best but i hover around 800-1200

Nice.

I tend to hover between 15,500 and 16,500. I have a pretty good setup but I need to improve 3 things with it if I want to get much higher in the standings:

  1. Location
  2. Location
  3. Location

I am consistently first or second among my local feeders, and flights between PDX and SEA pass pretty much directly over my house. But my traffic is never going to be at the levels of folks along the eastern seaboard of the US, or the people surrounding LHR.

It kind of is what it is…

I tend to agree. Its pretty much a real estate game. I wish they had some other rankings such as state or city rankings.

I’m at position 11, that’s only to the fact that I have 11 recievers  location is everything indeed, I live next to an approach of EHAM so lots of traffic daily.

Are all of your 11 receivers in different areas or the same area?
Do you use each receiver to focus on different ranges?

Been contributing since September 2019. Current ranking is 3906. Typical for the winter months. In the Summer I creep up to the low 2100’s or better. A few trees blocking the north but wide open to the south in Mid central Michigan. Running on a Raspberry Pi-4 with both the Blue 1090 and Orange 978 dongles. Separate entennas for each.

All the recievers are in the same area. I live on the 3rd floor of a 9 story building. The building has some strange angles that I have to work around in order to get a 360 degree picture. Some antennas are test setup with different hardware, different dongles (Radarbox, RTL-SDR, Flightaware Prostick), with or without barrel filters and different antennas (Vinnant 5db and 7.5db, Flightaware, Aliexpress and stock antenna).
I like to compare the performance of the different setups, also this enables me to support others if they run into an issue with their setup, using the different types of hardware enables me to replicate issues if i have the hardware and maybe I’m able to provide a solution.

@tech0 do you also have multiple stations? Also what equipment in general are you running?

I have 6 stations in my single level house. All are 3b or 4b RPi’s with generic dongles and indoor FA antenna located in my comm closet.

Can someone please explain the point of having multiple stations in one geo location?

For example, one for close by traffic and another for high altitude traffic. These setups require different gain settings.
If you want to catch all the traffic then you can create a short range and long range station.
Other option is to work around a building if you can’t get a 360 degree view at your location.

Two stations.

My personal excuse is to compare ‘differences’ - mostly antennas.
I keep two stations as close to the same as I can. Run them for a while and confirm they performing the same.
I keep one as the reference and make one change to the other.
This method gets past the hourly/daily variations that lead to incorrect interpretations.

Curious to know the basis of the two different site ranks? My main site says

Highest User Ranking Achieved in Last 30 Days: 554

But the same site is showing up as 39 on the “30 day site ranking” table

The user ranking is your combined result over all your sites, the site ranking is for this specfic antenna.

I see, thanks.
So my 1090 site rank is about 50, and my 978 site’s rank presently is 32,050…average for the two is 16,000 so obviously that’s not the formula. No matter, jut curious how the # is generated.

It’s not the position number indeed, the ranking looks at the number of aircraft and positions over the last 30 days. The more sites you have the higher the number of these 2. That’s how the user ranking is calculated

So, having 2 identical geo stations multiplies your statistics? Seems redundant to me.

Yes and no. You could use one station for close traffic and the other for distant traffic ( both with different gain settings). Some overlap will occur but it will serve different purposes while being on the same location
