Use another device for ADS-B Flight Tracking

Hi All from Greece.
I was wondering if it is possible to use another device such as BeagleBone Black C for receiving ADS-B signals and feed FlightAware, FR24, RadarBox etc. and how?? Another thing is that i am NOT very familiar to Linux software, so I need guidance. Thank…

It looks possible to receive ADS-B signals on the Beagle Bone but I don’t know if the software also uploads data to the tracking services…

There are other articles out there too. A web search will pull them up.

Things to consider are that you will be further away from the Pi images and updates. Updates will take longer if the Beagle Bone images are even supported. I haven’t read the articles or watched the videos but am betting more Linux work would be needed with those images. For someone low on Linux experience I’d guess (only a guess) you would be better off using a good Raspberry Pi board over the Beagles just from a maintenance and update standpoint.

Thanks for your reply SFRobert. Finally I decided to stay with my PI’s…

No problem. Since you have a Pi apparently already, you can set that up and have a working station to compare to and go to town on the Beagle Bone as Linux experience builds.

I don’t want to discourage you from the Beagle Bone but it would possibly be a real climb to probably recompile everything. Or it may just work but that could be varying shades of unlikely depending on how similar Beagles are to Pis.

Others probably know much better and that link and others might shed the most light since it does look like others have been working on it. I was just saying it might not be easy without much Linux experience. But Pis and probably Beagle Bones are good ways to start getting that. Might also look at a dual boot PC Linux installation or pure Linux if you have spare hardware lying around. Linux is great stuff. I don’t do anything important online using Windows. Only a Linux box or iPad tablet (BSD UNIX under the hood or at least used to be) for my online wanderings.

Thanks’ friend SFRobert once more for your reply. I have 3 stations running and the 2 is RPI’s…
