Tar1090 -- improved webinterface for dump1090-fa and readsb

Single engine turboprops (PC12, TBM) now have their own symbol do differentiate them from the other small single engine planes:

Is it possible to adjust the map zoom, right now I have 1,2,5,10,20,50,100 nm per “inch”

that get’s pretty big fast, could I add some intermediate zoom steps ?

Oh and some changes before that were to somewhat change the icon for the E170 and E190 jets and also introduce some size difference:

Screenshot%20from%202019-08-18%2023-01-37

The smallest one is an E170 which previously had the icon with the engines in the back (CRJ icon).

The biggest one is the A321, the B739 is almost as big.
The B752 and B753 are again slightly bigger than the A321.

The top two are an A319 and an A320, the size difference is so small than you an’t really see it.
But the A318 is a bit smaller again.

So when two airplanes are significantly different in size, you’ll see a difference

Pretty much all business jets had the icon on the left, i’ve changed the ones under around 14 tonnes MTOW to the symbol you see on the right.

The heavier business jets like the Global Express and Gulfstream still use the CRJ icon as they are pretty much in the saem weight class.

That’s the builtin openlayers controls.
The mousewheel allows a somewhat more finegrained zoom.

Anyway i won’t change the zoom steps because the maps don’t look as good at the intermediate steps.
That’s just how the openlayers maps are.

If you really want to you can change line 764 in script.js and make the delta 0.5

          controls: [new ol.control.Zoom({delta: 1,}),

But i just tried that and it wouldn’t zoom out.
0.8 worked better.

Map dimming has been added.
On off toggle only for now, hopefully better than nothing.

It’s on the top right in the cogwheel menu.

Just activated UAT978 in the 3.7.1 image and discovered your new web interface. Especially appreciate ability to include UAT in the display, even though at this point very few seen at our site.

As usual I added a 50 nm range circle, heywhatsthat terrain limit, and keep planes on the screen for 298 seconds.

Now that I’m running 978 and 1090 with 2 dongles, the old RPi B cpu is really overloaded - no surprise. Since we have low numbers at our site, it at least works. A few later RPi’s around here are all busy, so probably time for a model 4.

This customization is excellent. Thanks

Richard

I know you’re the best!

Works perfect for me, exactly what i was looking for.

The map dimming feature is nice to have. Its installed and working good. Thanks for its addition.

It now also works on the US layers, i had forgotten to include those.

I’ve adapted the colors so the green and yellow don’t stand out quite as much.
I’ve also made some other optimizations along the way.

The map is really responsive in regards to zoom and pan at the moment.

The table on the right is still quite a CPU hog when it’s updated every second.
But i’m not sure how i would go about improving that.
And as it’s only once a second, it’s acceptable i guess.

Latest is now installed and working good. The dimming option is a good thing to have.

Nice!
And thanks for being so active and accommodating!
Great feature, saves the eyes at night.

I keep forgetting to Shift refresh and am like where is this new button???

Strange, i’ve changed something so that Ctrl-F5 is no longer necessary.
Simply reloading the page should do it.

Just here to thank you @wiedehopf for your nice work! You are doing things right!

Any pending requests?

On a unrelated note:

In multiselect clicking “nowhere” no longer deselects all planes, to deselect click each selected plane or exit multiselect or press Escape or d.

Multiple keybinds added:

  • r: select and follow random plane
  • m: multiSelect mode
  • a: selectAll
  • d or Esc: deselectAll
  • f: follow selected plane

If you have any requests for other functions, let me know.

For any of you running pfclient, have you noticed the route and IATA flightnumber?
Should also get the types known by pfclient but not in the static database.

Is there a way to upgrade tar1090 automatically with apt upgrade?

It’s not a debian package, so no.

Anyhow, it’s not that complicated to upgrade, is it?

It is really knowing when there is an update/upgrade.
I do a reinstall of both graphs1090 and tar1090 every couple of days “just in case”.

This page shows you when the repository was last updated.

Maybe i should change the install so it doesn’t need to download the zip file.
Anyway if i change something major i usually post about it here.

And as you must have noticed by now, most of the time the old version worked just as good as the new version.
So unless you want xyz, no need to update.

Request for possible changes when follow is selected—

  1. suppress own sites range rings
  2. Show “predicted track” based current course/speed for maybe the next 3 to 5 minutes
(in some unique color or little arrows ?)
  3. forces the zoom scale… that’s good, but maybe slow map update interval or the recentering interval
