Sidebar Ads

Just happened again. There was an ad at the top of the mobile site in Safari for “Modern Warfare” but it was a casino gambling app that appeared when it redirected to the App Store.
I tried it in Chrome and the ad was for Charter Communications and redirected to Candy Crush in the App Store.

Great. Now the non-mobile site is displaying misleading ads from my2013rewards that try to look like Windows dialogs boxes. :imp:

Did the redirect happen after clicking the ad or just on it’s own? Thanks -V

In my case they happened automatically shortly after the page loaded.

Thanks, I’ve ran into Clash of Clans, Modern War, Age of Empire, Lotto, and Charter and they act appropriately on click. The culprit seems to be the ad on the reloaded page. I have run into this once and was redirected to a deer hunting app, unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a visual ad on the page - just the reload script. Please let me know if this sounds about right with what is occurring.

That sounds about right.

On a different note, when I viewed the website on my iPad this morning, the ad across the top of the page was for a product to “View blocked websites at work”, with a censored graphic of a young lady to illustrate a possible use. I guess if I wanted to view porn at the office without getting fired I might be interested.

I’m not impressed by the ads that they are delivering to your site.

Automatically.

As a user of Flightaware.com for over eight years and a charter member, I have been very supportive of the site, and the service that it provides. Recently, over the past few months, I have become increasingly dissatisfied with the products, as advertisements and sudden redirects from flightaware to other sites, particularly sites for Russian video games. (See other post that I made a few weeks ago, should merge it with this topic). Now there are Watchmojo.com videos playing. The videos have sound, and I should have a choice to avoid seeing them. A simple banner ad would be okay, but no videos playing from watchmojo.com please! If not, I may have to resort to only using the mobile version.

Hi brittanyp.

Could you provide any URL you are on at flightaware? I’m trying to get a gauge on whether you are on an https:// or http:// connection.

Thanks!
Vish

Hi,

I get quite a few redirections to ads too, not instantaneously but usually after I’m using the website for a few minutes. Both on my laptop and desktop, both with IE and Google Chrome. At first I thought it was caused by malware/virus, so I ran several scanning problems, without result. Apparently I’m not the only one, so the problem definitely lies with Flightaware.
One of the websites is lp.bigfarm.goodgamestudios.com.
I really hope you guys at Flightaware can fix this problem. I hate ads, but redirections really make me :smiling_imp: .
Thanks in advance!

Joost

Thanks for the details, we’ll look into it and see if it’s one of our advertisers. The way we serve ads they shouldn’t be able to redirect the flightaware page, only act within the ad frame.

Joost,

We have blocked goodgamestudios.com from the majority of our networks. If this continues to happen over the next few days, please record the resolving URL in its entirety. It appears you already have anti-malware software installed and that your problems lay in both IE and Google Chrome, nevertheless, I would recommend reading this statement from GoodGameStudios:

http://en.board.goodgamestudios.com/empire/showthread.php?47111-Undesirable-advertisement-(Pop-Ups)-regarding-Goodgame-Empire-Background-and-Trouble

Lastly, if you could let us know if your FlightAware urls are prefixed with https or http, you would be greatly narrowing the search for offenders.

All the best,
Vish

Pop-up redirect ads are back, forced the browser to open the link which then loads another URL to open up Play Store for some sort of “Android Anti-Virus”. Pop-up URL in question is mt.moneyandroid.com
dropbox.com/s/vqb6h4nsd1jss … -43-13.png

Personally I haven’t experience redirections since, but I’ll let you know when it happens again.

Bidgee,

Thanks for supplying a screenshot and URL! With these, I can block by both domain and image. Please let me know if this persists after two days.

Thanks,
Vish
