Security Soldier

On two different computers, when looking at the photos section, i’ve gotten a spyware alert from a “Security Soldier”. It opens a new window and then wants me to purchase their product.

Possible they’re both infected or you’ve got another site open at the same time?

This is the only thing open currently, and it was when I went to open a photo from the thumbs that I get the new window and message. I

I had something like that happen yesterday while on FA-

I have a Mac and it was funny to see a windows scan happening. then they said I was infected and that I needed to buy a some spy software

I haven’t encountered this on FlightAware but will be on the lookout. I’ve seen this before and immediately launch a virus scan on the legitimate software I have installed.

Wasn’t too clear there - when an ad like this appears, I close it out. Then, I open my virus program and scan my computer to ensure that the ad did not infect the computer with something.

It sounds like the ad network is serving up ads for scareware. Do not purchase the product, it will only act as a backdoor for downloading real malware, plus you’d be giving your credit card information to crooks who would undoubtedly misuse it.

Has happened to me as well. Identical. Just in the last few days.

it done it to me while looking a photos

Sounds like the same thing guys, mine was on two computers, one at work that doesn’t have a newer virus scanner, I had to download one to get rid of it. The other on my one at home popped up once for me, then my virus software took over and I haven’t seen any more trouble yet.

NERDS! :smiling_imp:

This was weird, because, at least for me, it added an icon down with the clock (pardon my lack of vocab) and it was a red shield, looked legit, and then a window from that popped up giving a name of the threat and what could happen, then it asked if I wanted “security Soldier” to destroy the threat. I know I have a scanning program, and knew it wasn’t related, but for all I know it could be another installed program that does something, Then if you said yes, it would pop up in the browser that you’re using a trial version, and if you pay 49.50 you could download it.

I don’t have much time to research this…

But there was an issue with NY Times ads that were sold by fake vendors last week…search the NY Times for the story…

More like TERRORISTS in my opinion, can’t stand those punks.

Saw the same thing…

The advertiser set up a legit site and submitted it, displayed legit ads for a week and then went to Malvertising crap.

internetnews.com/webcontent/ … +Times.htm would be one of many sources.

Unfortunately for those legit sites, it’s crap like this that further supports the need for ad blockers. I have not seen any of the symptoms people have indicated in this thread in the photo sections most likely due to my blocking known ad sites.

yup, same thing happened to me sunday morning while using flightaware!

We’re trying to find the bad advertiser. Unfortunately it looks like they’re coming from a reputable ad publisher.

Fixed that for ya.

I’ve had it a couple times, but not for a few days.

mduell can correct me if I’m wrong here…
I think the ads here all come from Google. I’m thinking the FA guys would have to tell Google about the bad adverts…and wait and see. Who knows, they may be gone now, but I’m not sure I want to look at any pics just yet to find out

Can anyone provide the URL for this ad?

We source ads from a number of networks (as well as in house), trying to find the provider.
