Hi there.
A couple of days ago with a bad weather system over Northern Greece the Thessaloniki (SKG) airport was closed. There were 5 flights that were diverted to a near by city called Kavala (KVL). 2 Hours bus ride to SKG
There was though a Ryanair flight that was diverted to Timisoara in Romania an at least 8 hour bus ride.
Can somebody explain why Ryanair would choose that airport instead of the closest one? The only thing I can think is that because they fly regularly to Timisoara they get a huge discount on the landing and ground fees.

Contracts with Timisoara instead of KVL?
