Return to Gate

On June 6, 2023 there was flight Delta DL2933 going from KLGA to KBOS. The gate departure is correct leaving at 7:34pm. Using V2 I received the block out alert. However the aircraft returned to the gate. I know this is a complicated process and in this case the aircraft eventually left the gate (again) at 8:57 pm and took off at 9:49 pm. The website has the same times I received with the API. But the flight time is incorrect because it’s using the original block out. Is this one of these situations where this type of event cannot be detected. It does not happen often but it does happen. What is the best way to handle this situation. For now we are manually making the time update. Im asking so I can set expectations with our users.

The airlines and our other data providers typically don’t provide us with enough information to distinguish these usual events any differently than what you saw. (Things can be even more complicated if a flight returns to gate and does an equipment swap to a different aircraft.) In other cases, the airline may choose to cancel the flight and file a new flightplan for the updated flight if enough time has passed since its originally planned departure.
