PiAware 5.0

@wiedehopf
Good morning, sorry for the late reply, but even in these weird times some things are more important than a hobby:0

I installed your updated tas1090 script and now everything is working fine.

Thank you again for the help

Hi,
No need to uninstall Piaware 4, before ?

No need to uninstall ver 4.0. Simply issue these commands to upgrade from ver 4.0 to ver 5.0

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade piaware

sudo apt-get upgrade dump1090-fa

Working like a charm, for me !
Thanks!!

A merged SkyAware map of 1090 and UAT aircraft for those with dual 1090/978 setups.
How do you get this to work?

It looks like you have a dual setup already. So the merged map should be the default URL:

< ip address >/skyaware

or

< ip address>:8080

Do you see the UAT toggles on your display below the aircraft table?

I was successfully able to upgrade to 5.0 using the stats page interface. When I went to upgrade dump1090, however, I received some warnings in the log:

Log1 Log2 Log3 Log4

My understanding of the software is so limited that, I am ashamed to report, I am not exactly sure what this means. But when I attempted to check out SkyAware, I noticed that in the top right corner I was still on version “3.8.1~bpo8+1”. Seeing some of your photos leads me to believe that had this worked correctly, I’d be seeing it say “SkyAware 5.0”.

Do these logs provide a clue as to how I might be able to rectify this? I am afraid of making things worse so I have not yet taken any actions.

Thank you all for your help!

If you have a spare microSD card, download & write piaware sd card image 5.0 on it. Slip out existing microsd card, slip in the spare microsd card and power up.

If you face any problems with 5.0 image on spare microsd card, you can always revert to your old microsd card.

Thank you @abcd567! I had planned to do that when I build my 987 setup in a few months, so perhaps I will wait until that time and do it all at once. If there isn’t a simpler command set to do in the interim, I’ll go with that.

I appreciate your help as always!

The Piaware SD card image has both the dump1090 and dump978, but by default it behaves as 1090 Mhz only (dump978 is sleeping by default).

Outside of USA there are no 978 flights, but users still use piaware image due to its default behaviour described above.

If you dont have antenna and dongle ready for 978 now, it is ok, you can still use the piaware image in its default mode. When later you get 978 antenna and dongle, you can issue few command to activate 978.

This looks like it is a problem with a missing copy of the public key that FlightAware uses to sign the releases, though I don’t understand why it would have worked for the piaware upgrade then stopped working for the dump1090 upgrade - they’re signed with the same key.

Usually this lives in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/flightaware-archive-keyring.gpg, you could maybe check that that file is still present and intact.

The simplest thing to do at this point is to reinstall with the current piaware image (or current Raspbian image, if you prefer). jessie is no longer supported upstream and isn’t getting security updates etc so that’s a strong incentive to upgrade.
