Photo Sort Order - Changed Forever?

In the last couple of months, some experimentation has been happening with how one user’s photos are displayed.

Formerly, my photos would appear in the order in which they were uploaded, with the most recent uploads appearing on Page 1 (which is the way I find it most helpful).

Two months ago, the photos started showing up in some other undetermined order. Yes, the more popular photos were appearing on the first page, but it wasn’t exact: it wasn’t based on views or votes. However, I could click ‘refresh’ a couple of times and it would eventually re-display my most recent uploads first.

As of a few days ago, the random, sorta-popularity based sort is now the only way photos will display. I can refresh the page all day long and never cycle back to my recent uploads.

It’s a pain to not be able to get to my own recent uploads when additional information needs to be added to the tags.

I’ve raised this as an issue in a couple of threads and in several personal messages to FA staff. I’m a little frustrated that the feedback is being ignored.

There’s a large photos interface overhaul going into production this week… you’ll be able to sort by upload date, views, or rank.

The “sort of popular, sort of random” ordering you’re refering to is probably rank, which takes into account both the average vote and number of votes.

This is a huge improvement! Thanks for offering it. It provides a lot more flexibility.

One thing I noticed is that the sort tab labeled “votes” does not really sort by votes. It is probably using the ‘rank’ criteria you mentioned above. Maybe change the name on the tab?
