Permanent mark on map

Since the most recent beta update, I have had a permanent blue splash on my map which changes size with zoom levels.

Hi Dave,

I don’t use the beta version of the app, and I definitely don’t use location within the app, but that looks very much like a geolocation “home location” based on either cell tower site or received WiFi signals. That would explain the approximate location instead of a more precise single dot from GPS.

I just checked the FA app (not beta version), and using “Settings.. Map.. Show my location..” shows a single dot here based on precise GPS location (when location enabled). Using approximate location (not GPS) did not give the indications you are seeing, but that might be a difference in the beta you are testing.

Regards,
-Dan (Yep, the guy from PP and I remember your approximate location there.)

Hi Dave,

Well, I just realized that you were actually asking about the FA app, and I was replying about the FR24 app. I have never found the FA app very useful and always use the FR24 one for a quick view. I do it so automatically, I didn’t even the FA vs FR24 comparison. Sorry about that.

Still, that size of circle still looks like cell tower or WiFi geolocation to me.

Regards
-Dan

The marking you are seeing in the beta app is your viewing direction. If you rotate your phone you will see it moving along with you either clockwise or counter clockwise :face_with_monocle:

The arrow I drew on the map does not point to the circle. It points to what looks like a wisp of blue smoke to the northwest of the circle, originating within the circle.

The marking shows whether my phone is in my hand or laying flat on a table.

That’s true, but if you compare it with a compass you will see it will also point to a radial when lying down. I’ve tested the theory prior to posting it here
