Ill leave that previous post there to note the outage in case it happens again, but having rebooted a third time the planes are back on FA and ADSBx. MLAT is active on FA, RB24, plausibly on ADSBx’s tar1090 page which shows planes, though I dont know how to check. globe.ADSBexchange.com showed no planes from my feeder for a while but is back now. MLAT is not active on FR24 for some reason even though it is set to active in settings it shows on my station’s page as MLAT running: NO, but that may be because there are no other feeders in range to sync with… hard to tell
You want to put the full screen of log onto pastebin for the next outage, the status doesn’t always show enough of the log.

As Flightaware has now officially released piaware ver 7.1 armhf (32-bit) packages, I have deleted from my Github PPA, the 32-bit piaware packages which I have previously built and uploaded there. This is in order to avoid confusion and conflict.
Now my PPA hosts only 64-bit arm64 packages. Currently, the 64-bit packages are not available from Flightaware repositories.
All those who have previously installed the unofficial 32-bit (armhf) version of piaware from my PPA are requested to please replace these by official packages made available by Flightaware here:

When installing official version, please dont forget to first delete my repository from your Pi’s apt sources list by following commands:

My Pi 4b crashes once or twice each day. Every morning I need to turn it off and on again twice (first time it just hangs) to get the feeders back online. Its Bullseye with GUI and recommended apps, running FA, FR24, RB24, PF and ADSBx, and almost nothing else. Are there any likely reasons this could be happening? I really need it to be stable.
I’d first check the logging. Why is the system hanging ?

the first message (Voltage normalised) would indicate that you might have a power issue on the Pi.
the command can be ended by using ctrl+c otherwise it will display the incoming messages onward.
The command underneath will how you the last 100 lines of the syslog, giving a little bit more context.
tail -f n 100 /var/log/syslog
end again with ctrl+c to get back to the command prompt
Power issues explain the erratic behaviour.

Maybe it explains all the crashing. Could overheating be causing power issues? I saw a couple of overheating notification emails. I have the pi in a plastic case thats made for use with the 7 inch LCD and while I have heat syncs on the board, there is no fan. I can probably add one in there is if would help.
What else could be causing the power issues?

Either the overheating or a power supply not giving enough power.
If it would be overheating I’d expect also to see CPU throttling messages, the Pi will issue those when the temp get too high.
not much to see in this part, I’d check again when you are getting notifications again. If it is a high temp we will have to wait until it builds up.
Open the case to see if that eases the issue or add a fan to see if that takes away the problem.
ok. i can try to add the pi-fan i have from another case but it wants to use gpio pins that are already in use by the 7 inch LCD. Can I use other pins for the fan instead so the screen stays connected too? There are also no logical holes to mount it onto the case but I can tape it.
I can’t help you with that, don’t have fans or LCD screens in use on my systems.
I can set the GPIO of the fan in the control panel but can only set one pin and there are two wires (black and red) so I dont know what to do, and need to seek advice first. But mounting the fan to the case with tape seems dodgy, probably need to get some glue and stick it to the back window on the case. in the meantime I’ve just left the case open to see if that allows the Pi to stay cooler.
Two comments: as far as I understand the Pi’s hardware, overheating resulting in a crash during operations is impossible as it will simply scale down the clock rate; secondly, I’ve had the very same problems (high temp. warning and random reboots): the high temp. warning was incorrect as the actual readout from CPU was well within specs (actually pretty low in the higher 50°C), but I noticed in GRAPHS1090 that the cache blew up and eventually consumed the entire RAM, so likely a memory leak?

When you say random reboots do you mean the pi just reboots itself? Mine just hangs, usually with a black screen but sometimes with whatever was on the screen before the crash. The reboots are mostly manual
How much memory and what exactly used the memory?
df -h
Obviously you’d need to run that command before the system actually runs out of memory.
My system doesn’t use more than around 50 MB for graphs1090 stuff.
