Multiple Feeds and Maximum Range

Oh…odd

I did follow their instructions to add a custom feed, but when viewing the receiver I chose to push data to I could see no planes on the map. I did send a request to claim that feed, but still I thought I should be able to see something on there.

I run VRS on an RPI3. It seems to work well.
Low power, setup and forget.
Add the database function to record aircraft. Juts keep an eye on the SD card.

When I was feeding to ADSB-Exchange via VRS, I knew the planes displayed were from my receiver, because I was the only one in the area feeding at the time, or most of the time. But without the custom feed, I’m not sure you can be certain this or that plane came from your receiver.

This is the reason I did not go for this solution (VRS on Pi). I just load VRS on Windows when I’m home, since in this case the Windows PC will always be on. I’ll miss the hours the PC is off , but that’s okay.

How large of and SD card (or how quickly would it start to fill up) would you recommend?

Not only that, but the life of the card is drastically reduced.

Have you had issues with cards dying after a short amount of use?

So is there a real “view” like Flight Aware’s but for each station that you might feed to?

You can view a combined view or a single view of each receiver.

VRS also keeps 10/20/30/40K range maps for each receiver.

So do most ADSB folks make use of VRS just for this exact reason?

Never tried to view Adsbexchange separarely.

In fact Skyview is a local display, and shows the Planes picked by your receiver. Even if you dont feed to any site, including Flightaware (by turning off their data feeders), the SkyView will continue showing planes picked by your antenna and receiver.

Exactly the same planes which are received by your hardware (antenna+dvbt/prostick+Pi) and displayed on SkyView, are sent to all sites you feed.

If you have enabled MLAT, then mlat planes of Flightaware, AND mlat planes of adsbexchange both are also shown on your local SkyView map.

Some sites do display the planes sent to them on a web page independently for each feeder. It is however NOT necessary that all the plane one sends to any site are displayed on that sites web page.

An example is my feed to Radarbox24 by my Station EXTRPI000008, which can be viewed on web:

One more site which lets me see my planes and max range plot through internet when I am away from home. No port forwarding or VPN required.

This cleared it up for me! I thought that the flights that showed on Skyview was only showing flights feeding into FA. I was having issues (still am) seeing flights on a custom feed with ADSB Exchange, but I have no also easily setup RB24.

There are however more flights (on the right hand side panel) than air crafts shown on map. See: https://www.radarbox24.com/stations/EXTRPI006053

Also I’ve had a few planes show up at helicopters.

I will begin looking into this now.

Phew…after all this I’ll probably order the roof antenna. Hopefully I can also figure out a solution to see how much data I am pushing out over time too.

Hi @abcd567,

How did you enable the ‘open’ viewing from the internet? I can see mine, but only after I login in.

Thanks.

Go to https://opensky-network.org/receiver-profile, log-in, and click Edit button. This will take you to receiver profile page.

On Receiver Profile page, Scroll down to “Privacy” and remove checkmark from “Anonymize”, and click submit.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Removing check mark from “Anonymize” will show your PRECISE LOCATION on map when zoomed large enough.
Before pressing “Submit Button”, change your Latitude and Longitude 2 places of decimal or less to make marker somewhat away from you exact location and address.

That was the first box I ensured was checked. :grinning:

I will change the coordinates.

Next is the RB24 feed, after reading your work around.

Thanks again.

Changed the coordinates, and unchecked the anonymize box in OpenSky. Working perfectly now. Page has some quirks, refresh related, let’s see how it goes.

RB24 also installed perfectly following your work around. Now evaluating its usefulness. The internet accessible live map is great, but not sure if it alone is a ‘retainer’ for me.

Next ‘target’, ADS-B Exchange.

Already tried FR24 and Planefinder. Decided to discontinue both feeders.

After all this install/uninstall, the ADSB Receiver Project performance graphs stopped collecting and/or displaying data. Live map and system info still working. Tried to re-install/update a couple of times, no ‘joy’.

Still think FA is the best of the bunch. If it could add live map access over the internet (view only) like the other two above, it would very good. Still dreaming about some Radarspotting specific features.

The main feature I am looking for or hoping for is plane spotting. If I see a specific plane I can tag, color it, and keep track of when I last saw it in my personal database as well as in FA.

Have a look here. May be it can help:
