LOT3 Incorrect Reporting

Just wondering why LOT3 is showing the plane as B788 where as it is actually a B767-300?

Bad data from the airline.

Not only LOT3. Right now also ANA203 and 204 show as 787s. These errors happen all the time and involve all sorts of aircraft.

Now I’m curious about the specific sources of information collected by FA. If you look at a flight history page such as this one
flightaware.com/live/flight/LOT3 … /EPWA/KORD
there are two places where aircraft type is displayed, in the table on the right, and by the plane symbol on the map (while en route). But these two pieces of data are not always in agreement, which suggests that they come from different sources. Even better, the aircraft type displayed on the map sometimes changes during the flight (sometimes several times). When LOT3 departed on 1/18 it showed as 767; now it’s 787.

From the FAQ:

Where is this data from? (Back to top)

FlightAware compiles, aggregates, and processes data from dozens of government sources, airlines, commercial data providers, as well as FlightAware’s proprietary flight tracking network. FlightAware’s proprietary algorithms calculate delay and arrival time estimates to offer the most up-to-date and reliable flight tracking data on the Internet.

Not all worldwide data sources (e.g., European data) or satcom data are freely available on FlightAware.com due to government regulations or commercial agreements. You can contact us if you have a commercial need for worldwide data.

I highly doubt they’ll be more specific than that…
