KPHX TO KFLL Diversion

On Jan. 27th flight # 183. Looks like it took off and came back in about 15 min. What would cause something like that and don’t they have to dump fuel before landing? I do this route about every 3-4 weeks. Just being nosey.

Airline?

A plane leaving Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was struck by lightning Wednesday morning shortly after take off.

US Airways spokeswoman Valerie Wunder said there was no reason to believe US Airways Flight 183 to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., should not have departed. The plane landed again at the Phoenix airport, and all passengers left the plane safely.

The passengers boarded another plane that was scheduled to depart at 12:30 p.m.

Although there are no records for incidents such as this, Wunder said, the Airbus 321 and all US Airways planes are equipped to handle lightning strikes.

The plane has been taken out of service and will be inspected.
