IL-76 N78GF @ AFW

Don’t know the answers to questions 2 & 3 but on 1, it’s not that uncommon for foreign countries to send aircraft to the USA for training. I know the German Luftwaffe does (or did) training in Arizona.

That’s for training with our Air Force, not with some private company. Big difference there.

Tex has got a point there. I mean come on, how many times do you see corporate pilots come to the U.S. to train and get to fire missles? Just kidding (don’t want this to seem like an “inane” post).

On the other hand, and wouldn’t you know it, the name of the place just slipped my mind…anyway, there is a huge pilot training complex at BFL for a Japanese airlines(s). I know that there are some corporations from all over the world that send their pilots there. Poor guys, stuck in the armpit of CA…crap, with that comment, I just made this an “inane” post.

Napa (KAPC); unless they have moved very recently. Probably do x-countries to BFL though.

Lufthansa has a similar school at Goodyear, Az.

Just got off the phone with the parentals (who, unfortunately, are still stuck in the armpit of CA) and they were pretty sure it is IATA or something of that sort. My dad did know it is a main training center for JAL.

Probably referring to IFTA (ifta.aero/) which is owned by All Nippon, a Japanese airline but not the Japan Airline.

Duely noted…

I do know that they are expanding, along with BFL, their flight training and aircraft. Not only that, but the ATC at BFL has about as much fun understanding the IFTA pilots as RVS does with half of the Spartan pilots.

Nice…

I like to call it “Thread Evolution”, though I am a creationist.

Seriously, that is neat to see a US-registered IL-76 in a photo. Congrats to the photographer.

Technically it’s an Il-78 Midas, but Il-76 is close enough.

The training base in NAPA is IASCO. International Aircraft Service Corp.

I used to be a mechanic there

:open_mouth:

Ok, here’s the latest skinny on the IL-78 & the company that owns it.

The IL-78 will more than likely never fly again, (at least not in it’s intended role). They, (ITTC or what ever they’re calling themselves these days), had a DAR ( Designated Airworthiness Representative) come in to look at it & he refused to certify the aircraft for commercial use because all of the instruments & paperwork (flight logs, engine logs, manuals, etc. are written in Cyrillic (Russian) and FAA regs state that all the above must be in English in order to get the certificate for the type of missions that they want to conduct with this thing. The DAR said that the only cert. that he might consider signing off on would be one that limited the aircraft for use at air shows.

It would cost a fortune to translate all the material into English and these guys are broke. General Charles Searock (USAF Ret.) - who was brought on as president of ITTC in order to give the company some form of legitimacy - quit the company in December & filed paperwork with the SEC because the two guys behind this deal wouldn’t pay him the $150,000 they owe him.

Mark Daniels
Chief Executive Officer
Tactical Air Defense Services (TADS)
5501 Airport Drive
Denison, TX 75020

Dear Mark,

I now find it necessary to terminate my service contract with TADS / ITTC that we agreed to last Spring For failure of TADS / IITC to perform as required; specifically failure to pay agreed to fees and expenses. In keeping with this termination, I will no longer serve as the CEO / President of TADS and/or ITTC effective 31 Dec 2006.

Over the past six months, I have repeatedly provided updated information regarding pay and expenses owed me. I am no longer willing or able to continue under these circumstances.

Following is a recap of pay and expenses agreed to under contract provisions and owed me.

Pay/Fees - $99,904
Credit card business expenses - 12,819
Cash expenses - 1,092
Moving expenses (does not include motel, food, mileage, etc)
Atlas Van Lines - 17,620
Weichert Realtors - 19,750

Total - $151,185

I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

/s/ Charlie Searock

Everywhere this company goes they leave disaster in their wake. They’ve been run off of two fields prior to arriving at GYI and I don’t see their track record improving.

What seems odd to me is. With only one IL76/78 in the U.S. why only one posted photo of her. Is she hard to get at?
Doesn’t look difficult from the shot posted above. Not an extreme telephoto used No buildings or fences.
Be lucky

TexHill,

Interesting stuff there and timely too as I had shown a lot of interest in this back when it was first announced. Around Aug/Sept of last year I e-mail Gen Searock and sent him my resume’ for consideration (AF Reserve Egress Tech). We had several e-mail replies between us and then I didn’t hear much after that. . .just that he would keep my resume as a “call back” when they were closer to hiring. My kids and grandkids live in Sherman and so when I was up there, from time to time I’d go out to the airport to see the progress. . .I didn’t see much and I was just out there about a month ago and nothing looks any different.
I had an e-mail reply from the Gen. about 3 days ago in reply to one I sent informing him of my retirement and a change of address (back to Sherman) and e-mail addy change. His reply was surprising all things considered. He said that I should get in touch with the guys at Grayson if they don’t call me beforehand because they had gotten new financial backing and were going ahead with the project.
The other thing I had been told by Victor some time back was to get any info, if possible, on the K-36 Seat. I was able to secure the K-36 T.O. from a friend at Wright/Patt. He mentioned that because he said what they would be flying there would be Mig-29’s and the SU-27. That was then. . .this is now and after reading all these posts. . .I’m not real sure that even with Searock’s suggestion that I get with them, it’s necessarily a good idea any more.

Google “French military victories”; click on first link.

A little google humor.

Thanks. Funny site and the one immediately beneath it is funnier.

I don’t think Victor will be happy to read this.

NOTE: It appears that while I was typing a response. . .IL78Pilot pulled the post I was responding to. Basically I was responding to his statement that F-16’s were to fly from Grayson.

IL78Pilot,

I may have met you briefly on Saturday when I came in to see Victor. Not sure, but I may have.
Anyway. . .I’m a little confused. Back in the Spring of last year when the news media announcement of ITTC coming to Grayson was first aired, I was under the impression that the aircraft to be flown were in fact F-16’s. Later, in August, via e-mail conversations with Gen. Searock he mentioned that the aircraft to be flown would be the Mig-29 and SU-27’s. Finally, earlier this year in a brief conversation with Victor he reiterated that no F-16’s would be flying from Grayson in the foreseeable future and that the purchase of the Migs had already been entered into.
Your information seems to counter that. Can you tell me, since I’m interested and an F-16 Egress Specialist living a few miles from the airport, when Grayson County might actually see any Fighter aircraft activity on a daily basis?
