In the first graph the number of tracks with single message seem to be pretty high.

What should it be and what is the consequence of it being “pretty high”?

S.

I can remember an explanation of @wiedehopf about it. It might be false/weak data not beeing processed properly.

But i might be wrong as well. While seeing other graphs here, their number of single message contacts are all lower.

There are lot of “rule of thumb” rules that have become law over time.

I have more interest in distant traffic rarther than local so i have the gain wound up on a couple of receivers so tracks with only single message is about three times more than one message and messages > 3dBFS is about 17%. Lots of local traffic is lost due to overload but i am not interested in the local stuff.

Each to their own and no-one it’s wrong.

S.

Relative maybe.
But that’s more of an absolute too much / too little.
Nothing to worry about.
dump1090-fa / readsb also have a bit of a different meaning for it probably.

That doesn’t have proper graphs.
Give adsb.im image a try, you can in the SDR setup easily specify the remote data source as the FA Flightfeeder and configure everything via the webinterface.
You’ll have proper graphs and everything

Oh those are different locations.
It’s often hard to tell if a location can be improved.
Comparing to heywhatsthat can give some idea of what is possible for a certain location.

That looks like the gain is low.
But the range is good according to the screenshot.
So unless you get a lot less range than the terrain limits i wouldn’t increase gain because you can lose close by traffic.
You could always give --gain=auto in readsb a try (https://github.com/wiedehopf/adsb-scripts/wiki/Automatic-installation-for-readsb)
Or enable the dump1090-fa autogain. I’m not too familiar with it though and getting it to work good might need some non-default settings.
