flights to Tonopah test range / is that Area 51 ?

flightaware shows flights to Tonopah , is that or not Area 51 ? and if not , do you list flights out of Vegas for Area 51, as you show Tonopah. And why are flights shown for Tonopah test range ? Just inquiring, not interested in any secrets…

I believe Tonopah Test Range is at or nenar Area 51/Groom Lake.

We show the flights to Tonopah Test Range because they’re operated just like any other commercial flight, and the operator has elected not to block their flight numbers.

Not really.

The daily flights from McCarran to Area 51 are blacked out.

As JHEM pointed out, Groom Lake/Dreamland/Area 51 etc, etc, is a completely different site than Tonopah Test Range.

Just for your info these may be useful,
Tonopah Test Range KTNX
Groom Lake KTKM
KDRA Desert Rock Airport NV (sometimes filed as a landing location for civilian flights to the operation near Groom Lake)
**KTPH ** Tonopah Airport NV (near the Tonopah Test Range, but civilian. TPH is often in the flight plan for routes between LAS and TNX
**KINS ** Indian Spring Air Force Auxiliary Airport NV
**KUCC ** Yucca Flat Airport NV (located on the Nevada Test Site)
Should be enough there to get you started.

Where did you get that from? Neither KTKM or TKM exist as valid airport codes. Groom Lake doesn’t need airport codes, because until recently it didn’t even exist. It is shown as “sand” on the sectional charts.

No!

Groom Lake doesn’t have a code, doesn’t need a code.

Here is one source

There are others

Which specifically states at one point “Since Groom Lake doesn’t exist (according to the FAA) the fight just appears out of nowhere”.

So some guy tracking flights around Nevada proves anything about airport codes? Something from IATA, ICAO, or the FAA would be a source, that is just an interesting site.

TKM is a communications tie-in facility, not an airport.
It appears (just once) in the FAA documentation here:

OK Guys,
Sorry I was trying to be helpful. I had it on my list and had to back track a bit to find my source.

Airport code, please.

TPH is Tonopah, Nevada, and is a public, non-secret airport.

TPX is the (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/tonopah.htm) (amont other places - Doesn’t anybody Google anymore?)

Doesn’t anyone use the preview anymore to make sure their links work?

 Sorry about that, chief. (And please forgive me for using more than my self-imposed quota of emoticons)
