The space Shuttle discovery is being flown from Florida to Virginia this Tuesday April 16. Its scheduled to arrive at Dulles Airport between 1000 and 1100, weather permitting. I’ll be one of the crowd waiting and hoping to get some nice photos from the Air and Space museum parking lot. I’ll be listening to IAD approach, but does anyone know if I’ll be able to track the flight on my iPhone flight aware app ?
The flight ID should be NASA followed by the digits in the 747’s registration. Listen for NASA905 or NASA912. I believe one of the two is retired but I don’t know which one.
911 is at Palmdale being used for parts for their other telescope 747. It will be NASA905 or N905NA
It is taxiing as I write this.
No flight number or info on FA yet.
airborne 1058Z
Here’s a link to a video of the takeoff on CNN.
Still nothing out of KTTS other than the T38’s. So would this indicate it is flying as a “military” flight? Those are not “trackable,” correct?
correct. It is operating as Pluto 95 heavy.
Were they operating this as a military flight because the destination was DC (security reasons?) I think a 747 with a space shuttle on its back would be hard to miss
That would be a good guess.
