Dump1090-fa loads and connects, but "no recent data seen" with rtlsdr v4 blog

Apologies if this is a basic mistake on my part due to a lack of experience.

dump1090-fa connects to piaware but sends no data.

Using rtl_adsb works just fine.

No apparent issues with dump1090-fa

I’m running in an Ubuntu VM on Windows 11.

The rtlsdr v4 blog dongle requires library tuner support which is not present in the library version shipped with upstream debian/raspbian. You will need to rebuild with their specific version of librtlsdr. (I do not have instructions for this – it’s not entirely trivial)

rtl_adsb is not a great test as it doesn’t do basic CRC checks and most of its output is noise/garbage.

Alright, I’ll try to learn about that and see what I can do. From where I am, I don’t get the best reception anyway. So I’ll just stick with rtl1090 and VRS in Windows for now. Thank you for the info, though!

It’s super easy to build it, see here: GitHub - rtlsdrblog/rtl-sdr-blog: Modified Osmocom drivers with enhancements for RTL-SDR Blog V3 and V4 units.

Just another bump to say that this worked for me too. V3 dongle came to life on piaware after following byraspi’s instructions above.
