Is there a means of searching for a particular type of aircraft by simply entering in its manufacturer & model (i.e., Boeing 737) without having to first having to work throught the codes(i.e., B73X)

That sounds like a good idea, since we already have searches for airline and airport codes.
I’ve filed it in our bug tracking system (open to the public) so you can track the our progress.
