On August 11 the Iowa Honor Flight is flying 350 WWII Veterans to Washington DC for the day. I plan on watching it take off on Tuesday Aug.11,but was also hoping to find out when it was coming into Des Moines. Does anyone know who they are using to charter this flight? I didn’t know if the postioning flight would be on Flightaware or not.
Yes, only 2 passenger 742’s left at NW, N623US and N624US.
I saw 623 last year when it brought the Saints back from London (624 took them to London from CLT) and it was a quite a sight at MSY and it was funny how almost every pilot coming in asked the controllers what was a 747 doing at MSY, was this new service, what runway did he use (28 btw), etc.
Love the classic aircraft at NW and hate the merger and will hate to see these great old planes go.

Can’t find the ferry flights and not sure if NW puts them in the flight status system anyway. They will either bring it into DSM early tomorrow morning or this evening or tonight directly from another charter. Just gonna have to watch FA or set up your alert for a 742.
I don’t understand this map exactly. I’m not sure if they’re allowing people onto the South cargo ramp to see them off, or if they’re telling people to line the route as the buses are shuttling from the hotel. dsmairport.com/PDF/Honor%20F … 0Route.pdf
I think you can go out on the ramp. I only half-listen to Van and Bonnie on WHO-AM, but I think they want a very good turn out for the sendoff. I sent a twitter to a reporter I know that is going on the flight, but he is pretty lame about response…seems I heard they are allowing folks right out onto the ramp.
You’re right…this is pretty big to-do.
I’ll be up for it.
TC (Des Moines)
It is 1:49 GMT right now and it shows it hasn’t left MSP yet.
They had to make take that slot and make room for a Continental Express E145 that they wanted to divert to Rochester.
Who knows? They probably plan to bring it down in the morning, I guess. If it doesn’t show, feces shall be impacting the rotary air circulating device.
I set up on the approach to 31 in the Bennigan’s parking lot since that’s what they were landing on all night and then they came in on 13. Probably so as not to fly over that neighborhood at midnight. No shots.
