dbaker as in blocked aircraft do you mean when I type in a CEO jet in the Tail search on here it will show me the position as every other flight? If so that would be neat! Getting tired trying to look it up then no request per owner comes up .
Yes. Most all of the “blocked by owners” should be going away. They actually stopped 8-02-11 but some may still appear blocked if they filed a flight plan before 8-02.
Check some you haven’t been able to track. They should start showing up if they haven’t already.
I am curious to see the retort to the complaint leveled by fltplan.com against flightaware.com (both NBAA members) regarding the stalking tactics used by flightaware to “out” flight departments choosing to utilize the “Dot Com” callsign furnished by fltplan.com to ensure anonymity.
These tactics include calling FBO’s after a DCM flight lands at an airport and impersonating company officials and other dubious underhanded tactics to extract information about the operator.
A member of the FA staff purchased a membership on a professional pilot board and attempted to diffuse the issue, and failed. He has yet to respond to the queries by concerned crewmembers.
Is there any official response by flightaware.com on this privacy issue?
The allegations that we were calling FBOs about the DCM flights and impersonating others to stalk aircraft are both completely false. When we do contact FBOs, which we do thousands of times a week for fuel prices, we openly identify ourselves as representatives of FlightAware. Using a callsign in no way ensures anonymity with respect to tail numbers; our system correlates about 20,000 flights a day between callsigns and tail numbers using a variety of methods. Shawn Sullivan did sign up on a pro pilot board and post about our offer of free blocking until the operators are able to get on the FAA CSC list at the end of the month. As far as I know there were no substantial replies in the thread following his offer.
Thanks for the response. I am curious if you could clear the air and tell me exactly how you associate a DCM callsign with a tail number? Is that something spit out of the ASDI feed?
It appears to take 5 or 6 flights for you to associate a DCM flight with a tail.
Interesting, why associate a tail # with a call-sign? The plane won’t always have the the same DCM #.
